Slovenia and Croatia - two great destinations in one tour! Enjoy the very best that these two countries have to offer. Stunning lakes and mountains, castles and caves, cascading waterfalls and a beautiful coastline. They have everything
Lake Bled in Slovenia has always been a playground even in the more straitened times of Communist rule. Our hotel is located close to the lake with its medieval castle and its many cafes, bars and restaurants. Join our ride out to the caves at Postojna and visit the castle at Predjama - both fascinating destinations. Or simply kick back and enjoy the local budva beer at a very modest price... and the local cake is good too! If you stay local why not take one of the little boats and climb the great stone steps to the fairytale castle on the little island in the middle of the lake. If you prefer some breath-taking roads join our ride-out into the Triglav National Park, with tight twisty climbs, swooping descents, and endless stunning vistas.
Croatia is a great tourist destination and visitors are rewarded by a heritage that dates back to the Roman civilisation. You will stay for four nights in the coastal resort of Opatija, alpine in character with a Mediterranean ambience and often compared with the French Riviera. Opatija owes more to the last vestiges of the Austrian/Hungarian Empire (think 1890/1910) but now newly refurbished and resplendent in its former glories. Especially in terms of the Baroque architecture of many of its buildings. Here grand residences of the wealthy of a bygone age have now been converted into elegant and sophisticated hotels. From our hotel in Opatija you can ride to the Amphitheatre at Pula (one of the largest and best preserved in the whole of Europe) or ride out across country to the UNESCO heritage site at Plitvice National Park - a place of extraordinary beauty where seven lakes at different levels are joined by cascading waterfalls. It's a truly amazing sight.
The journey to and from Slovenia and Croatia is interesting too, with stopovers in Cambrai, Saarbrucken, Augsburg, Munich and Metz.
You must be prepared for significant daily mileages on the routes there and back, although you will be rewarded by the extraordinary sights in these still emerging economies of central Europe.
