This tour starts in the Forest of Bowland and finishes in the Lake District, using mainly 4 star hotels and characterful country inns.
As well as some favourite roads in these areas we will be using some routes off the beaten track through the Yorkshire Dales National Park, North Pennines AONB, the Kielderhead National Nature Reserve, taking in a full day ride-out in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, the Scottish Borders, and Lake District National Park on the return leg.
After making your own way to our first hotel, day two takes us from our 4 star hotel at the south west corner of the Forest of Bowland AONB to the northern edge of the Yorkshire Dales, taking in Malham, through Coverdale and Swaledale along the way. We will be staying in a lovely country inn with dinner from a kitchen that serves Yorkshire food with a modern twist, sourced locally and seasonally as much as possible, with some local beers available too. A fantastic way to end a brilliant day!
After a wonderful cooked breakfast we will indulge in a ride-out through the Yorkshire Dales National Park returning to our country Inn again. Heading north on day four, past the highest pub in England at Tan Hill, crossing Hadrian's Wall and up to Keilder, entering Scotland to spend our forth night in a 4 star hotel in the Scottish borders. Marvellous!
Having reached our most northerly point on this tour, we will again have a free day to explore the Scottish Borders on a ride-out, with day six seeing us head south west to our hotel in the Lake District meandering through the Borders and the northern Pennines en route to the Lakes. Staying at this hotel for two nights means we spend day seven on a full day ride-out through the Lake District, including Wrynose Pass, Hardnott Pass, taking in Buttermere, Newlands Pass down Borrowdale for Honister Pass, Winlatter Pass, and back to our hotel for our last night. What a day!
After breakfast on day eight we will check out of our hotel and head home, possibly taking in even more wonderful roads along the way.
Around 850 miles in total, so an average daily mileage of only 170 miles, but using lots of minor roads we will still enjoy full days of riding. The Forest of Bowland, the Dales, North Yorkshire, the Borders, and The Lakes and the are wonderful motorcycling playgrounds, and our route will allow us to enjoy the space and scenery these regions offer.
