Battle of the Bulge battlefields tour

The Battle of the Bulge was the last major German offensive campaign on the Western Front during World War II, and took place from 16 December 1944 to 25 January 1945. It was launched through the densely forested Ardennes region of Wallonia in eastern Belgium, northeast France, and Luxembourg, towards the end of the war in Europe. The offensive was intended to stop Allied use of the Belgian port of Antwerp and to split the Allied lines, allowing the Germans to encircle and destroy four Allied armies and force the Western Allies to negotiate a peace treaty in the Axis powers' favour. Only the doggedly determined defence by outnumbered and outgunned Allied forces, and the Germans overstretching their supply lines, allowed time for the Allies to move reinforcement to what had previously been a lightly manned stretch of the front line.

Departing Dover on an early ferry the first point of interest on Friday will be Mons, after which we will ride to visit the Commonwealth war grave at Hotton before riding onwards to the 4 star hotel which will be our base for THREE NIGHTS, including a THREE COURSE MEAL on the first night.

Over the next three days we will ride out as a group to visit points of interest such as Bastogne (which was surrounded by the Germans), the Battle of the Bulge Museum nearby, the Malmedy Massacre memorial at Baugnez, the memorials at Stavelot, Stoumont and the King Tiger 213 at La Gleize, returning to Calais on the forth day via La Roche-en-Ardenne, the Panther tank at Grandmenil and the US Military cemetery at Neupre.

In all about 800 miles, with the longest day being about 265 miles. The Ardennes is wonderfully scenic, and the roads entertaining and quiet.  This tour gives us the opportunity to ride the fantastic roads of the Ardenne, and to be educated in the history of this critical military action.
