Front End Chatter, the UK’s most talkative motorcycling podcast, is pleased to welcome you to the FEC800, a special tour of the Highland’s Greatest Motorcycling Hits with FEC hosts Martin Fitz-Gibbons and Simon Hargreaves.
The FEC800 starts by meeting up in the afternoon of Sunday 15th May 2022 at the fantastic Rosslea Hall Hotel on the banks of Gare Loch just outside Helensburgh, Glasgow. That evening, after introductions, we’ll enjoy a three-course dinner before heading out the next day, Monday, on the first leg of the ride.
Day One takes us along Loch Lomond, past the Green Welly at Tyndrum, through the Great Glen and inspiring scenery of Glen Coe. From there we head north past Fort William under the shadow of Ben Nevis to Invergarry, along the thrilling A87, and around Eilean Donan castle (from the Highlander movie) before arriving at Gairloch Hotel, overlooking the sea.
Day Two takes us alongside Torridon’s forbidding slopes onto a narrow, coastal-hugging route winding around the Applecross peninsula looking out across the sea, and up to the famed Bealach nà Ba pass with its mind-bending views, before passing down through Lochcarron, across Skye Bridge and up to Portree for the evening at the Portree Hotel.
Day Three we’ll explore Skye’s unique scenery before taking the ferry back to the mainland and following the Mallaig road to Fort William, then picking up the run around the eastern side of Loch Ness to spend a night in the centre of Inverness at Glenmoriston Townhouse Hotel.
Day Four is the turn of the Cairngorms, tracing a route from the Cairngorm ski centre, through an ancient forest onto the old Military Road that takes us right through the heart of the mountains, down to the final run along the river Tay and Loch Tay, back to our final night back at the Rosslea Hall Hotel and a front row seat for a special recording of an episode of Front End Chatter!
The total distance for the ride is around 800 miles, so that’s around 200 miles each day – but with plenty of photo points, comfort breaks and coffee stops built-in, as well as an hour for lunch. The price includes evening meal, accommodation and breakfast.
The FEC800 is truly is the most spectacular 800 miles of motorcycle riding in the UK – with astonishing views and some crazy roads (everything from wide and generous to tight and gnarly!). You’ll have the option to ride with Simon H and Mufga, or make your own way between hotels – the choice is up to you!
