Your Magical Garden Route 14 day Tour starts and ends in Cape Town.  The tour will start when we pick you up from the airport and bring you to your hotel right in the centre of Cape Town. The "Mother City"  wraps an African welcome up in a cosmopolitan vibe and colonial ambience that might, for a moment, make you forget you are in Africa! Then there's the sheer beauty of the Western Cape.  This Garden Route tour offers the perfect mix of motorbike ride and vacation.  The days have been finely-tuned so that you get the best of both worlds as you explore South Africa's coastline and get to know all about the country's glorious cultural and natural diversity.

Cape Town - arrival  Upon arrival at Cape Town airport you will be transferred to your Cape Town hotel for the night.

Cape Town - 150km  We start for real this morning (or you can of course arrive earlier and have extra nights in Cape Town to explore) as you meet your tour guide and discover the delights of Cape Town's V&A waterfront where we pick up the motorbikes from the rental agency before heading off on an orientation ride!  Your bike will seldom be older than 13 months. Your introductory rideout will take in Table Mountain .  In the evening enjoy an informal get together to discuss the tour ahead!

Cape Town - L'Agulhas: 320km  After breakfast we follow Route 44 (Clarence Drive) and take in the coastal scenery as we head to Hermanus one of the top whale watching sites in the world, and also visit the Stony Point penguin reserve.  In the afternoon you will ride to L'Agulhas the most southern point of the African continent where the Indian and Atlantic oceans meet.  Some great photo opportunities from the outset!

L'Agulhas - Knysna:  400km  We continue along the rolling plains of the Overberg region and head towards scenic Knysna in the heart of the Garden Route.  Today's route will include Swellendam on the N2 and a lunch stop in Mossel Bay.

Knysna: 200 km  After a well deserved night's rest we enjoy a relaxing day in and around the Knysna/Plettenberg Bay area.  Optional activities to consider are the well known Monkeyland sanctuary and the nearby Birds of Eden outside Plettenberg Bay or you could enjoy a ride out to traverse the Outeniqua Pass outside of George.  The pass is one of the smoothest motorcycling passes in the Western Cape and loved by bikers.  OR you can enjoy an afternoon sun downer cruise on a paddle cruiser. A new motorcycle museum called the Motorcycle Room recently opened in Knysna on Therens Island.

Knysna - Addo via Port Elizabeth: 350km  Our journey continues along the N2 through what is described as the heart of the Garden Route, the Tsitsikamma Forests.  We make a stop at the impressive Bloukrans Bridge just in case you wish to attempt the world's highest commercial bungee jump at 216m.  Lunch can be enjoyed at the Tsitsikamma National Park.  After lunch we continue to Port Elizabeth.  We enjoy a brief city tour detour before heading towards Colchester which borders the Addo Elephant National Park.

Addo:  0km  After breakfast you go on a full day safari to the Addo Elephant National Park.  Here you will travel in a jeep with a qualified field guide and have the opportunity to look for the Big Five - lion, buffalo, rhino, elephant and the elusive leopard.  Addo is the only reserve in South Africa which is home to the Big Seven as it incorporates a huge marine reserve where the Southern Right whale and great white shark are to be found.

Addo - Graaff Reinet: 350km  Heading inland you will travel over the Olifantskop Pass and enjoy wide, open roads with little traffic as you enter the Great Karoo, a semi arid vast region that reminds us of the American "Wild West".  We pass through the frontier towns before traversing mountain passes to finally descend to the historic town of Graaff Reinet.  In the late afternoon you ride up to the Valley of Desolation to enjoy the tranquility and natural beauty while overlooking Spandau Hill and the plains of the Great Karoo.

Graaff Reinet - Oudtshoorn: 435km  Today you will cross the plains of the Great Karoo as we head toward the distant mountains of the Klein Karoo.  The mountains subtly change colours and after 300km of flat Karoo plains we reach Oudtshoorn, the ostrich capital of the world.

Oudtshoorn - 100km  Rest day OR you can take a short ride to explore the Cango Caves and visit one of the ostrich farms at your own leisure.  Another option for the more adventurous is to traverse the Swartberg Mountain Pass which is also a national monument (gravel).

Oudtshoorn - Robertson - 320km  Explore South Africa's famous Route 62 as we travel to Robertson with a stop at the infamous Ronnie's Sex Shop (beer, but no sex),a coffee stop in Barrydale and lunch in Montagu.  The R62 has recently been listed as one of the best motorcycle routes to ride on the planet, but it sadly comes to an end as we enter the Breede River Wine Region.  A pleasant farm stay awaits us outside of Robertson on a wine farm in the Nuy Valley.

Robertson - Franschhoek: 200km  A day of mountain passes today including the local favourites Franschhoek and Hellshoogte Passes.  A stop will be made in Stellenbosch for lunch before continuing for our overnight stay in Franschhoek in the heart of the South African wine growing area.

Franschhoek - Cape Town: 200km  In the distance Table Mountain welcomes us as we head towards Cape Town.  Today's route is known as the Peninsula Route and it takes us in a southerly direction, away from the bustling city centre, towards Simons Town on the False Bay side of the Peninsula and the Cape Point Nature Reserve. The rest of the afternoon will be spent travelling along the western seaboard towards Hout Bay via Chapman's Peak. Before our final night in Cape Town we return our motorcycles to the hire depot.

Cape Town - home  Time for last minute shopping in the Mother City before your airport transfer.  Or you can of course always add extra nights to your stay in this wonderful city.

Our Magical Garden Route Experience comes to an end after riding our motorcycles on some of the best routes in South Africa. Each of us should use the time to reflect on the experiences we have lived and some of the memories that we will treasure to share with friends and loved ones as we head back home.
